Thomas Clanton, MD, retired December 31, 2020, from his practice of orthopaedic surgery at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. where he was Director of Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine for 11 years. Previously, he was Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for the last 10 years of his 27-year practice in Houston, Texas.

He served as Team Physician for Rice University as well as the Houston Rockets and Assistant Team Physician for the Houston Texans, and an orthopaedic consultant for the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, United States Ski and Snowboard, and U.S. Olympic and Paralympics Team. He is a Past President of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the Texas Society for Sports Medicine and is a frequent lecturer both nationally and internationally on sports medicine and foot and ankle topics.
