The Munich Orthopaedic Technology and Innovation Forum took place in May 2016. Professor Mackay was delighted to attend this excellent forum for experts from throughout Europe. The packed program allowed us to share ideas and experience on a wide range of topics from Internal Bracing to biologics and stem cells. Crisp, short summary presentations were followed by open discussion.
Some key points included an improved understanding of the ALL and the need for a consensus document.
Philip Schoettle shared the latest understanding of the patellofemoral joint and optimal surgical management. A shoulder update reviewed the IB developments for the AC joint stabilization.
Professor Zimmerman provided an excellent overview of Orthobiologics and the safety record for the use of stem cells in orthopaedics.
Stem cell Angel delivery system may be the perfect partner for ligament repair and Internal Bracing and is currently part of a multi-centre study.
It is always a pleasure to meet new surgeons who are now Internally Bracing and I have been assured it has officially arrived in Moscow.
The icing on the cake though was the basic science confirming the potential for the Internal Brace to compliment all ligament repairs – watch this space!
The reception was excellent and traditionally Barvarian. Stefan Krupp the Managing Director of Arthrex and Philip Schoettle did it in style. I was joined by our South African friends for dinner.
