Welcome to the InternalBrace International Study Group
Officially launched at AAOS 2023, The InternalBrace Study Group is an independent research group that includes some of the finest consultants and specialists from around the world. Many have been advancing the use of the InternalBrace to enhance their patient's care and outcomes, while others have been involved in advancing specialist rehab protocols for InternalBrace patients or in advancing the clinical research side. We hope as a group, to further collaborate and continue to improve the outcome for patients and knowledge for surgeons around the world.

THOMAS O. (TOM) CLANTON, MD
Thomas Clanton, MD, retired December 31, 2020, from his practice of orthopaedic surgery at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, where he was Director of Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine for 11 years.

Prof Gordon Mackay
Professor Mackay is a specialist sports surgeon who invented the InternalBrace tendon and ligament repair technique in 2010 in conjunction with Arthrex. It now has over 30 applications in the human body and is used by many of the world's top orthopaedic and veterinary surgeons.

Mr Graeme Hopper
Mr Graeme Hopper is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow. He specialises entirely in surgery of the knee with a particular expertise in sports knee injuries.

PETER BOETTCHER
Peter Böttcher currently serves as a Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. Graduating as a Veterinarian in 1996, he further established his expertise by becoming a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) in 2004.

J CHRIS COETZEE, MD
Orthopedic surgeon, J. Chris Coetzee, M.D., earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1984 and completed his residency at the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa.

DR. GREGORY S. DIFELICE
Dr. Gregory S. DiFelice is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Sports Traumatology and Joint Reconstruction Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

WEIMI DOUOGUIH M.D.
Dr. Douoguih serves as Regional Medical Director of MedStar Sports Medicine. He also serves as the Senior Orthopaedic Consultant for the Washington Wizards (NBA) Washington Mystics (WNBA) and is Chairman of the NBA Research committee.

JEFFREY R. DUGAS, M.D.
Jeffrey R. Dugas, M.D. specializes in the treatment of injuries of the shoulder, elbow and knee. Recently, his research efforts include his pioneering work on the use of Internal Brace technology for the treatment of UCL injuries in overhead athletes.

ERIC GIZA M.D.
Dr. Giza is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Chief of the UC Davis Orthopaedic foot and ankle service and the UCD/Reno Orthopaedics Foot & Ankle Co-Fellowship director. He specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopy and complex reconstruction of the foot and ankle.

BRUCE A LEVY, MD
Doctor Levy was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and received his
medical degree from the University of Montreal. He then completed his Orthopedic Surgery
Residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and an Orthopedic Sports Medicine
Fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

JAMES MCWILLIAM MD
James R. McWilliam, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot and ankle surgery. His treatment philosophy stresses conservative management and, if non-operative treatment fails, he applies an evidence-based approach to surgical correction and repair.

ANTONIO POZZI, DMV, MS, Diplomate ACVS
Antonio Pozzi is the Director of the Clinic of Small Animal Surgery and head of the Small Animal Department at the University of Zurich.

PROF BILL RIBBANS
Bill is a Northampton, England, based Orthopaedic surgeon. His training was principally in London with fellowships in Sheffield and Harvard.

STEVEN SHIN, M.D., MMSc
Dr. Steven Shin is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of athletes' hand and upper limb injuries.

DR. PATRICK A. SMITH
Dr. Patrick A. Smith received his medical training at the University of Michigan followed by a sports medicine fellowship under Jack C. Hughston.

ADAM STOKES
Sports physiotherapist with over eleven years of experience working as a clinician and medical department lead at some of the biggest clubs in Scottish Football, as well as working with the Scottish National Team.

DR TROY WATSON
Dr. Troy Watson is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders and arthroscopy.

PROF ADRIAN WILSON, MBBS, BSc (Hons)< FRCS, FRCS (Tr & Oth)
Professor Wilson is a specialist knee surgeon who qualified with a BSc in Biochemistry from Manchester University....
We answer your Questions about the InternalBrace International Study Group
The InternalBrace International Research Study Group is membership only group of surgeons (both human and veterinary), and rehabilitation experts.
The IBISG was founded by Professor Mackay in 2022. He invented the InternalBrace in 2010 with the help of Arthrex. It is a invitational membership group of InternalBrace experts.
Our members are experts both in human and veterinary side of orthopaedics, or are experts in the rehabilitation of patients who have undergone InternalBrace surgery.
Membership is by invitation only, however if you are a surgeon using the InternalBrace in your practice and are interested in getting involved you can contact us through our Contact page.
The aim of this group is to keep expanding our knowledge of the use of the InternalBrace in orthopaedics as we believe it offers patients better outcomes and benefits such as less painful and accelerated recoveries. Our research as a combined group now cover over a 10 years period includes thousands of patients and an ever-expanding amount of published research papers.
