Exciting News: Make It to Munich chosen as Glasgow Film Festival’s closing movie!
We’re thrilled to share the exciting news that Make It to Munich, a brilliant documentary about courage, friendship, and triumph has been selected as the closing film for this year’s 2025 Glasgow Film Festival.
The film tells the inspiring story of 18-year-old Ethan, who, just months after surviving a life-threatening accident, took on the incredible challenge of a 1200km charity cycle ride from Glasgow to Munich. His goal? To deliver a match pennant to the Scotland squad ahead of their opening game against Germany in the UEFA European Championships 2024.
Joining Ethan on this unforgettable journey were Prof Mackay who performed his knee surgery, award-winning filmmaker Martyn Robertson, and Stephen Collie, a Tartan Army superfan.
Defying the Odds: Ethan’s Inspiring Recovery
Ethan’s journey began under the most challenging circumstances. After suffering devastating injuries when he was struck by a car shortly after starting a football scholarship in the US.
This unique film captures Ethan’s incredible resolve, showcasing his triumph over adversity and his mission to inspire others. “I want to inspire others to just do it instead of hesitating and wondering about what will happen,” Ethan says in the film – a sentiment that lies at the very heart of this story.

Martyn of Blackhouse Films and Urbancroft not only pedaled the whole 1200km but also captured the journey on camera to turn it into Make It to Munich. His film follows the foursome’s amazing adventures on a journey filled with challenges, laughs, and moments of profound connection as they cycle through multiple countries to deliver the pennant.
The film is more than a chronicle of a charity ride; it’s a celebration of the human spirit, resilience, and camaraderie, with plenty of Scottish humour sprinkled throughout.
